Rays from the Sun gave me strength that day!

Pre-semester internal exams in university were making too much hustle that time, consecutive and two-three exams on each day of the penultimate week of April. Plus the tormenting attitude of the justly came summer and the severe heatwave was also becoming unbearable for anyone in West Bengal gradually day by day, especially in Kolkata. Though the Saturday had come then to lighten up the mood of an exhaustive Engineering student and as the others also. Even semester exams were going to start on the following week and at present it’s ongoing. The first paper of the exams was Highway Engineering, along with the topics like roads, highways, pavements, design of flexible pavements, overlay design, rigid pavements, bituminous mixes, Marshal mix design, and many more. Too inert to prepare for all of these instead of just roaming all around the Internet to collect, to know information about everything except engineering itself. But, to be honest, I couldn’t just leave all these exam liabilities, and consider these negligent. I had to study and I was, even so, it was little! ‘How the cheering could happen fairly?’ – the thought came to my mind then instantly. To get rid of all these bitumen, aggregates, IRC codes, tests everything for some moment.

Journey to the Heart of Kolkata by the Lifeline of Kolkata

Kolkata metro, the Lifeline of Kolkata was the best option to reach Shobhabazar since it was the evening time and from DumDum Junction there was no Majherhaat line train(Kolkata Circular Railway under Sealdah Division, Eastern Railways). Onboarding in a metro full of passengers who were coming from previous stations, I was barely able to find a seat to sit. Reserved for the senior citizens, ‘Senior citizens? I am not one! Who cares? If anyone comes who falls to that category and demands the seat then I will leave.’ Within 2-3 meters space there was a ladies’ section specially reserved for the women, who were sitting peacefully sticking their faces to mobile screens, their right thumb on the mobile screen constantly indicating the sense of their process of scrolling, Social Media! One among them was the exception, a book on hand and eyes on the pages, from that distance I couldn’t decipher which book the woman was reading. Possibly could be like Romantic or Fantasy fiction(a favorite genre in today’s generation of bibliophiles), or it could be a Classic, Classic lover, like me! Pondering about which type of her book was, I suddenly realized the announcement on the speaker of the metro was stating the name of station Shobhabazar-Sutanati(Station: Shobhabazar Sutanati, platform is on the right side) and also by then an old man about 65-70 of age was approaching towards me to register his right to sit on that particular seat. The exit which is also one of the main entrances of the metro station is just beside the Central Avenue road, the road connecting North to Central Kolkata. The width of this road is huge, on the north, it stretches to ShyamBazar and in the south direction, it directs all the vehicles to Dharmatala Esplanade Maidan, the Heart of Kolkata. An interconnection road from the Shobhabzar Metro to Shobhabazar Ghat was there, another reason for choosing the metro option. Shobhabazar Street was the straight and clear path directly to my destination.

Walking through that street was like I was the 19th Century citizen, going back a century behind, revisiting the true Kolkatans with my own very eyes. The masonry walls of those old building structures in some parts were fully torn apart and the red plastered walls were exposed to nature’s sun rays, the water of rain, and the wind of the atmosphere. Balconies of those buildings were open and all the senior citizens of the houses were gathered together, babbling with too much excitement despite their decaying age and life, the topic of their discussion was really unknown to me; it doesn’t matter though! This place wasn’t like the other places around Shobhabazar, Songachi, the largest red-light district of the Asia continent; where, all the sex workers stand at all the intersections along the street, waiting for their every day as well as one-day special customers. But, this street wasn’t like those at all, it was representing the old Kolkata, a heritage one! The structures with ancient engineering technology, which are still standing, still, in service for their inmates, I was about to cross the railway crossing- that Majherhaat line train route. I crossed the rail track despite the barriers for safety being down, which were there to prevent trespassing of any passerby or any vehicle to come along the path of the train and not making any tragedy.

The Heritage one!

Nearly at the end… too close!

There was a wonderful sight in front of me! After crossing the Railtrack, a normal straight street parallel with the famous Hoogly river. On the other side of the river, was Hoogly city. An image of that sight would be a better option to convey the scenery to all of you.

The slanting ghat, Sobhabazar ghat
really a soothing sight it was!

Any place in Kolkata that is really wonderful would literally be crowded as always including this place also. From children to elders every age group of humans was a part of that place at that time. But, as usual, the percentage of the couples was more than of the other category visitors and also among the couples the number of newbies was considerably larger than the matured ones. I am a mature one even though a single but without any doubt, I can differentiate between the new and the old ones among all the couples. All of them were there for love and some of the other visitors were for fun but I was not there to love or to have fun, I was there to learn. Learn how to reflect brightly in the world like those the slanting sun rays from the sky.

I was sitting on the stepped pavement of the riverside and had the famous Hooghly river in front, where the soft glowing orangish-yellow light from the sun reflects and made a beautiful evening. As with the main intention still in my mind, I was experiencing the extreme enlightenment as the sea breeze I talked about earlier was causing and serotonin rush in my chemical regulation. Water waves were like roaring like a lion and continuously thrashing waters on the closed steps of the river.

Steadily the Sun was hiding under the horizon, getting away from our vision, and making the dark more intense in the opposite direction of the sky thus the government-run ferries were still on duty to deliver their daily passengers to their desired destination, which in most cases to their homes.

The slanting ghat, Sobhabazar ghat
loop: brightness to darkness and then again to brightness, Next day!

In the above image there you see the loop. The loop of brightness-darkness-brightness-darkness and so on,  the loop of happiness-misery-more happiness and again more misery. As each new day always comes up with the same slanting sun rays in the morning but not brought the misery instead of a lot of happiness and at the end in the evening those same rays sometimes cause misery in ourselves. But, as the protocol of nature from the very first beginning of life on earth is, the new day brought new lights to our lives and also many moments of happiness too to enlighten us every time we go through a moment of grief. Our only task is to sit, think and

to learn,

don’t be like just a fern.

everything you do, you say is always fine,

just like the sun’s rays, you have to shine…

the potential of humans is always considered to be up to the mark, we have our own capabilities to beautify our environment in every fabulous manner. This trait of humans is also acquired from nature, we love to decorate things. As our outer world, itself tries to illuminate whilst having the situation adverse as well, we also have to try by ourselves to illuminate our inner world!

*offline exams suck! Given and still writing papers for even semester exams from the past two weeks, as I am a loafing one don’t want to pay much attention to academic studies, and for this reason, writing here feels like an avoidable chore for me. But, as I learned, Creation by Imagination after Experiencing something is also like an illumination in life, it makes life special… please share your concerns about this piece of thought written down here by commenting on this blog post… much more valuable for me every word from yours.
